Elizabeth GARTRELL

  • Born: Abt 1696, Illogan, Cornwall
  • Married: 30 Jul 1716, Illogan, Cornwall 1
  • Buried: 29 Dec 1761, Illogan, Cornwall 2

  Research Notes:

Elizabeth Richards was bequeathed 1 shilling in her mother's Will (written 1727).

------------------------------

Elizabeth wife of Nicholas Richards (burial record).

------------------------------

Elizth. Richards is named in the Will of her brother John Gartrell of Phillack, yeoman (written 1767), as mother of four children to whom he bequeathed 20 shillings each. That Elizabeth was deceased at this time is suggested by the fact that, unlike her sister, Cordelia Vivian, Elizabeth did not receive a bequest from her brother. Elizabeth's surviving children at this time were William, Nicholas, Henry and Michael.

  Marriage Information:

Elizabeth married Nicholas RICHARDS, son of Nicholas RICHARDS of Gwinear and Mary, on 30 Jul 1716 in Illogan, Cornwall. (Nicholas RICHARDS was christened on 21 May 1687 in Gwinear, Cornwall and was buried on 19 Mar 1765 in Illogan, Cornwall.)

1 Illogan Parish Registers (BTs), Marriages. Elizabeth's family name is not shown in the Register. However, an analysis of the Richards families of the relevant period in Illogan indicates that Nicholas was the only one with a wife named Elizabeth. Most of the children were christened in Gwinear, where Nicholas originally came from. What is also of interest here is that Elizabeth's mother refers in her Will to a tenement called 'Metheres Noweth' in Illogan, and Elizabeth's son, Nicholas Richards, also refers to his leasehold estate called 'Meveris Nowath'.
