As one of the four surviving, unnamed children of his late mother Elizabeth Richards, Michael was bequeathed 20 shillings in the 1767 will of his uncle John Gartrell of Phillack, yeoman.
In 1795 Michael Richards and his son William Richards were named as beneficiaries in the will of Michael's brother Nicholas Richards of Illogan, yeoman.
