As one of the four surviving, unnamed children of his late mother Elizabeth Richards, William was bequeathed 20 shillings in the Will of his uncle John Gartrell of Phillack, yeoman (written 1767).

As William was not named in the Will of his brother Nicholas Richards of Illogan (written in 1795) it is likely that he died before then, buried in Illogan on one of the following dates: 4 Oct 1768, 1 May 1775, 22 Jan 1776 or 11 Feb 1787.
