Present were children George (17) of St. Johns Sussex, ag lab, and born in South Malling: Edward (15), ag lab, Charles (13), ag lab, Philadelphia (9), scholar, Sarah (6), scholar, John (4), scholar, and William (2).
At the time of the 1861 England Census John Carey, age 49, born in Alciston Sussex, farmer's son, and wife Elizabeth, age 50, born in Weymouth Devon, were living in Broyle Farm, Ringmer Sussex. With them were children (born in Malling): Philadelphia (19), dress maker, John (14), ironfounder's ap[prentice], and William (12), ag lab. John's parents were at the same address.
In Jan 1865 John Carey of Ringmer, farmer, was named as a beneficiary in his mother's Will.
At the time of the 1871 England Census John Carey, age 60, born in Alfriston [sic] Sussex, ag lab, and wife Elizabeth, age 60, born in Weymouth, were living in . . . . . . . Green, Ringmer Sussex. Son John and his family were at the same address.
At the time of the 1881 England Census John Carey, age 69, born in Alciston Sussex, and wife Elizabeth, age 70, born in Weymouth Devonshire, were living in Coldean, Falmer Sussex. With them were grandsons Ernest A Carey (9) of Ringmer, scholar, and William Carey (5) of Lewes, scholar.
