At the time of the 1861 England Census Charles Carey, age 22, born in Lewes Sussex, seaman H.M. Navy, and wife Emma, age 19, born in Exeter Upton Pyne, were living in Plymouth St. Andrew Devon. With them was daughter Lily Agnes (3 mo) of Plymouth Devon.

At the time of the 1871 England Census Charles Carey, age 32, born in Lewes Sussex, coastguard service, and wife Emma, age 29, born in Exeter Devon, were living at 28 Cannon St., Brighton Sussex. With them were daughters (born in Plymouth Devon): Emma (4) and Amelia (2), and brother William Carey (23) of Lewes, single, bricklayer.

In Dec 1877 C Carey and his wife Emma Carey were present at the marriage of Charles's brother William Carey to Amelia Elizabeth Perkins in Worth Sussex.
