Elizabeth Blaber

  • Born: [7 Aug] 1811, [Brighton, Sussex, England]
  • Christened: [30 Aug 1811, St. Nicholas, Brighton, Sussex, England] 1
  • Married: 25 Nov 1832, South Malling, Sussex, England 2
  • Died: 1891, Brighton, Sussex, England 3

  Research Notes:

Per the Census entries from 1851 through 1881, Elizabeth is recorded as having been born in Weymouth, which is in Dorset, not Sussex or Devonshire as shown. There is no record of an Elizabeth Blaber born or christened in Weymouth Dorset around 1811. The fact that the 1891 Census states that Elizabeth was born in Dublin Ireland only muddies the waters. It's entirely possible that Elizabeth spent her formative years in Weymouth Dorset, however, it is unlikely she was born there. The only viable candidate is Elizabeth Blaber, born 7 August 1811, christened in Brighton St. Nicholas on 30 August following, daughter of William Blaber and Mary Pocock.

William Blaber died on 15 Jul 1839 and left a Will registered in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, proved on 30 December of said year. In it he names his children including Elizabeth, although the marital status of his children is not given. Perhaps of note is a short entry in the Brighton Gazette, dated 18 Jul 1839, p. 3: "On the 15th instant, at his residence, Dorset Gardens, greatly respected by all who knew him, William Blaber, aged 62 years."
