Alexander called himself a bachelor when he married Grace White in 1833, and yet he had a daughter Elizabeth Jane who was aged 15 years in 1841. While the 1841 Census itself does not directly indicate what the relationship between the members of a household are, at the time of Elizabeth Jane's marriage she identified Alexander Vivian, mine agent, as her father.

In 1841 Alexander Vivian (43), Cop. Co. Agent, was living in Gwennap, Cornwall. Present was daughter Jane (15).

In 1851 Alexander Vivian (52) of Gwennap, Cornwall, Copper Core Sampler, was living in Gwennap, Cornwall. Present were wife Frances (34) of Kenwyn, sons (all born in Gwennap): Alexander F. Enoch (7), scholar, Alfred Elijah (5), scholar, John Eamis (2), scholar, Frederic (7 months)

The Will of Alexander Vivian of Gwenap, Agent, written 9 Nov 1853, proved 10 Apr 1854. 6

This is the last Will and Testament of me Alexander Vivian of the parish of Gwenap in the County of Cornwall Agent I give and bequeath all my property whatsoever and wheresoever of which I may be possessed or entitled to at the time of my decease to my Brother John Vivian of the Borough of Truro Mine Agent his executors and administrators Upon Trust from time to time after my deceased to sell and realize and convert into money the whole or so much thereof as he or they in his or their discretion shall think fir retaining such of my Mine shares and for so long a time as he or they shall think fir and after payment of my debts funeral and testamentary expences to invest the proceeds so realized at interest in the stocks or funds or on purchase or Mortgage of Freeholds or Leaseholds and to receive the whole income of my property and after payment of all necessary outgoings to pay the same to my Wife Frances for her life if she shall so long continue a Widow for the maintenance and education and herself and children and immediately after her death or second marriage Upon trust to stand possessed of the whole of my property Upon trust for such of my said children as shall attain their respective ages of twenty one years and if but one the whole to such one and to apply the interest and income of their respective shares in the meantime and until they shall attain that age to or for the maintenance and education or otherwise For their benefit respectively And I appoint the said John Vivian sole Executor of this my Will And I declare that the receipt of the said John Vivian or other the Trustee for the time being hereof shall discharge the persons taking the same from the monies therein expressed to be received and from all responsibility as to the application thereof And that if the said John Vivian or other the Trustees for the time being hereof shall die or be abroad for the space of twelve calendar months at one time or desire to be discharged from or become incapable to act in the trusts hereof Then it shall be lawful for him or them respectively to appoint a new Trustee or Trustees in his or their place and stead And thereupon all the trust properly shall be assigned and transferred to the new Trustee or Trustees Upon the trusts as nearly as may be of this my Will and every new Trustee shall have the same powers authorities and discretion as if he had been hereby originally appointed And I declare that the said John Vivian or the Trustees for the time being hereof shall be chargeable only for such monies as they respectively shall receive and be answerable only for his and their own acts receipts neglects and defaults And shall reimburse himself or themselves respectively and allow to his or their Co trustees all costs and expences which may be incurred in the execution of the aforesaid trusts or in any wise in relation thereto In Witness whereof I have hereto subscribed my name this ninth day of November one thousand eight hundred and fifty three.

And Admon of all and singular the Goods etc of the said deceased with the said Will annexed was granted to Jonathan Bawden and Richard Powning the Guardians lawfully clicked and admitted during the minority of Alexander Francis Enock Vivian the Son of the said deceased and a Legatee named in the said Will. John Vivian the Exor Frances Vivian the Widow and a Legatee having first renounced under their respective hands and seals the Probate & execution thereof Bond being first given Sureties Richard Skewes of Kea Mine Agent and Richard Michell of Gwenap Shoemaker Effects sworn under £1000 Being first sworn...
