In 1871 Betsy P. Hawken, aged 54, born in St. Ervan, and husband Joseph Hawken, aged 57, born in St. Ervan, farmer of 115 acres, were living in Higher Tregrahan, St. Blazey, Cornwall. With them were Betsy's mother Martha Hawken (77) of St. Issey, widow, sons Joseph (32) and John (28), farmer's sons, born in St. Ervan.
In 1891 Betsey P. Hawken, aged 74, born in St. Ervan, widow, living on own means, was in Nancor, Creed, Cornwall with her son Joseph (53) of St. Ervan, farmer, unmarried. Also present were Joseph's siblings (both unmarried): John (48), farmer, and Martha A. (50), housekeeper.
