At the time of the 1841 Wales Census Catherine Richards, aged 49, born in Glamorgan, and husband Thomas Richards, aged 49, born in Glamorgan Wales, mason, were living in Penmark East, Glamorgan. With them were sons Thomas (26), mason, and William (23), mason.

At the time of the 1851 Wales Census C. Richards, aged 60, born in Penmark, schoolmistress, and husband Thomas Richards, aged 59, born in Penmark Glamorgan, schoolmaster, were living at Porthkerry School, Porthkerry, Glamorgan. With them were granddaughter Jane Evans (8) of Porthkerry, visitor William Benjamin* (21) of Penmark, smith, lodger Eliza John (21) of Merthyr dovan, scholar.

At the time of the 1861 Wales Census Catherine Richards, aged 70, born in Penmark Glamorgan, widow, schoolmistress, was staying with her widowed daughter Katherine Benjamin (30) of Penmark, schoolmistress, in Schoolhouse, Porthkerry, Glamorgan. Present also were Jane Evans (18) of Porthleven, assistant teacher, and 3 boarders.

At the time of the 1871 Wales Census Catherine Richards, aged 80, born in Penmark Glamorgan, widow, retired school teacher, was staying with her daughter Catherine Johns and her family in Schoolhouse, Porthkerry, Glamorgan.
