St Andrews folks went with Thomas French Junr. before Mr Basset, being in custody since the Evening of 28th Instant, and a guard on him in John Taylor's house in Denispowis... The guard on him was William Lewis, the overseer, John Minutt, the High Constable, John Norman, the Petty Constable, and Thomas Gronow junr, the Church Warden of St.Andrews, who went with him all before Mr Basset, in case of a base child begotten from Jane Nicholas deceased, thinking to receive all charges and Relief in looking to hold he and maintaining the child this three months or more, from the parish of Wenvoe. But the parishioners of Wenvoe consulted amongst themselves neither to meddle nor make agreement with them nor him, but let them commit him to Jail, rather take his wife and children on the parish than assist he in his wickedness. And the wise, rather foolish men of St.Andrews saw good to take security from his father for the child and be in all the Relief and Charges themselves, after braging that Wenvoe's parish should pay all charges and the relief of the child till now."
