Writing his Will in May 1770 John Smith 'the elder' of Bexhill, yeoman, appointed his son John Smith 'the younger' as co-executor of his last will and testament.
John Smith 'the younger' of Bexhill died intestate several days before his father, such that responsibility for the execution of the Will of John Smith 'the elder' of Bexhill passed to the other executor, William Cramp of Pepplesham in the parish of Bexhill, farmer, who renounced executorship.
In 1792 John Smith was named in the Will of his brother-in-law William Sinnock of Bexhill, yeoman, as deceased and the first husband of William's sister Mercy, father of William's nieces Ann Smith and Sarah Smith.
