Abstract of the Will of William Short 'the Elder' of Wootton Bassett in the County of Wilts, Baker, written 29 Dec 1812, proved 24 Apr 1813. 4
Gives and devises one acre of land which descended to him from the will of his great-uncle William Short deceased, located in a field called Coxtalls in Wootton Bassett, to his son William Short. Also gives to his son William Short his freehold tenement with garden and outhouses in Wootton Bassett, currently occupied by one Isaac Hicks.
Gives and devises to his wife Jane his freehold tenement where they now live, with the malthouses, outbuildings, gardens and a half-acre of land in Coxtalls, for the term of her natural life or for as long as she remains a widow. After the death or second marriage of his wife he gives and bequeaths the same to his son Joseph Short.
Gives to his wife Jane two freehold cottages with gardens and outbuildings in Wood Lane Wootton Bassett, and a freehold acre of land in Coxtalls aforesaid. And after her death or remarriage he gives the same to his son Joseph Short.
Gives £10 to his son Joseph Short.
Gives £20 to his son Thomas Short who is now in his Majesty's Service. And if his son Thomas should die or be killed while in his Majesty's Service, he directs that the legacy of £20 be paid to Thomas's son, also Thomas.
Gives £10 to his grandson Henry Short, son of his late son Henry.
All the rest of his personal estate and effects he gives and bequeaths to his wife Jane.
Appoints his wife Jane and his son Joseph Short co-executors of his last will and testament.
