In 1813 William Short was a beneficiary of his father's Will, receiving a field called Coxtalls in Wootton Bassett which had descended to his father from his great-uncle William Short, gent. William was also bequeathed his father's freehold tenement with garden and outhouses in Wootton Bassett.
At the time of the 1841 England Census William Short, aged about 75, yeoman, was living in High Street, Wootton Bassett Wilts. With him were Sarah Short (45) and Johanah Short (40).
