---------------------------

SUDDEN DEATH OF THE TRAFFIC MANAGER OF THE TAFF VALE RAILWAY.—We deeply regret having to announce the sudden death of Mr. Edwin Edward Page, the esteemed traffic manager of the Taff Vale Railway Company, at his residence, Roath, on Sunday morning, about four o'clock. Mr. Page belonged to the family of that name so well known in the neighbourhood of Aberystwith, where his father held for many years the position of harbour-master. Mr. Edwin E. Page, from or very near the commencement of his business career, held the important office of traffic manager under the Taff Vale Railway Company, although he was not officially recognized by that title until some five or six years ago, when the promotion of Mr. George Fisher, from the office of general superintendent to that of engineer to the Taff Vale Company, afforded the directors an opportunity of manifesting their practical appreciation of the great services Mr. Page had rendered to their system. It may, however, be parenthetically stated that a gap of two years which the deceased gentleman spent in Cornwall broke in upon the long string of years during which he served the Taff Vale Railway Company. The even and orderly judgment of Mr. Page discovered itself strikingly in the exact working to which mainly by his efforts the running of all rolling stock on Taff Vale metals has been long brought. Good rolling stock being, together with punctuality, indispensable to the satisfactory working of a railway, Mr. Page never failed to show the greatest care both in the selection and the building of vehicles intended for Taff Vale use. It is a matter of some regret that although the deceased gentleman had been suffering from cold for about a fortnight, and although for some days previously he had remained at home, he should have allowed the exigencies of Christmas traffic to induce his attending at the office so recently as Friday last. The demise of Mr. Page, besides being a matter for the sorrow of his widow and family, the officials and servants of the Taff Vale Railway Company, and his very numerous friends among all classes, must occasion regret to the members of the Roath Local Board, of which he was a hard working member.
