At the time of the 1851 England Census Ann Copley, age 36, born in Firle Sussex, and husband John B. Copley, age 42, born in Hunslett Yorksh., inn keeper & engineer, were living at 21 King Street Brighton Sussex. With them were children Hetty (14) of Shoreham, Frank B. (12) of Deptford Kent, scholar, Harry (9) of Deptford, scholar, Edward (6) of Deptford, scholar, Nelson (3) of Brighton Sussex, George B (8 months) of Brighton. Ann's daughter Elizabeth Budgen (19) of Firle, annuitant, was with the family.

In 1853 Ann the wife of John Copley was bequeathed £130 from her late father's Will.

At the time of the 1861 England Census Ann Copley, age 45, born in Firle Sussex, married, was housekeeping for Charles Moor at 14 Edward Street, Brighton St. Peter. Ann's niece, Harriet Mockett [daughter of Ann's brother Alexander] was working at the same address.

At the time of the 1871 England Census Ann Copley, age 54, born in Firle Sussex, widow, was manageress of the Bevois Castle Hotel (Joseph Crook was the licenced victualler) at 3 Bevois Street, St. Mary, Hampshire. Her son Geo. B. and his family were at the same address.

DEATH IN A BOAT.—An inquest has been held at Walton-on-the-Naze, on the body of a man which drifted ashore there in a boat, and was identified by Mrs. Ann Copley, of Brighton, as that of her son, Francis Borough Copley, chief engineer of the Princess, belonging to the Steam Navigation Company, which was lost on the 3rd inst., while on the voyage between Ostend and London. A verdict of "found dead" was returned. Deceased was 33 years of age, and his late father was formerly in charge of the stationary engine at the Brighton railway works, and also the landlord of the Running Horse public house.
