In 1776 John Bate was a beneficiary of his father's Will, receiving an inheritance in fee simple of a tenement in Egloskerry called Taborrow [Treborrow], conditional that John pays his mother Grace £4 annually during her widowhood.

Gives and devises to his wife Elizabeth Bate the parlour, the pantry and the parlour chambers, along with his two best beds with bolsters, pillows, quilts, sheets and blankets.
Gives £150 to his son Thomas Bate.
Gives £10 to his son Walter Bate.
Gives £20 to his son John Bate.
Gives £30 to his daughter Ann Painter.
Gives £30 to his daughter Elizabeth Davy.
All the rest of his goods & chattels, real and personal estate, he gives to his son William Bate whom he appoints executor of his last will and testament.
