In April 1820 Walter Bate was present at the marriage of his brother Thomas Bate to Mary Johns in Tresmeer.

In 1838 Walter Bate was a beneficiary of his father's Will, receiving £10.

In 1841 Walter Bate, aged about 45, farmer, and wife Elizabeth, aged about 35, were living in High Hall, Laneast Cornwall. With them were daughters Elizabeth (12), Annabella (6) and Mary (2).

In 1851 Walter Bate, aged 57, born in Egloskerry Cornwall, farmer of 140 acres employing 3 labourers, and wife Elizabeth G, aged 45, born in Laneast Cornwall, were living in Laneast. With them were daughters (born in Laneast) Annabella (16), scholar, and Mary Jane (12), scholar.
