Richard Fox is described in his father's Will as his natural son which, comparable to the French enfant naturel, most likely indicates that he was born out of wedlock, especially since there is no register entry for his baptism under the surname Fox, and there is no evidence that his father ever married. Presuming this is the case, then Richard's mother was most likely Joan Bawden, and he was christened under her family name in Illogan on 6 Oct 1751.
Richard was bequeathed £200 in his father's Will (written 1814), along with his dwelling house and premises, as well as the meadows which are part and parcel of Ventonraise in Illogan parish.
