At the time of the 1861 England Census Charles Adams, age 45, born in Alfriston, bricklayer &c., and wife Ruth, age 42, born in Yapton, were living at 15 Holland St., Brighton. With them were children: Oscar F. (15) of Horsted Keynes, labourer, and born in Brighton... Charles H. (14), scholar, Louisa J. (10), scholar, Walter G. (8), scholar, Sydney H. (5), scholar, Rhoda A. (3), Rosetta E. (1).
At the time of the 1871 England Census Charles Adams, age 55, born in Alfriston, bricklayer, and wife Ruth, age 52, born in Yapton, were living at 3 Islingword Place Brighton. Present were children (born in Brighton): Louisa J. (20), laundress, Walter J. (17), labourer, Sydney H. (15), labourer, Rhoda A. (12), scholar, Rosetta E. (10), scholar, Robert D. (7), scholar, and Frank (6) of Brighton, grandson, scholar.
At the time of the 1881 England Census Charles Adams, age 66, born in Alfriston, bricklayer, and wife Ruth, age 62, born in Yapton, were living at 5 Islingword Place Brighton. Present were children: Walter Geo. (26), bricklayer, Robert Douglas (17), hairdresser, grandson Oscar F. (16) of Brighton, bricklayer's labourer. Daughter Louisa Lee and her family were at the same address.
