Bartholomew Horsell was named in the Will of his father-in-law John Mapson of Wootton Bassett as husband of his daughter Mary (1742).

Abstract of the Will of Bartholomew Horsell of Wootton Bassett in the County of Wilts, Cordwainer, written 9 Aug 1781, proved 4 Jan 1783. 4

Gives and bequeaths to his wife Mary Horsell his messuage or dwelling house, garden and premises where he now lives in the borough of Wootton Bassett for the term of her natural life, along with the use of his household goods.

Gives and bequeaths £5 to his said wife within 6 months after his decease, and thereafter £10 per annum for her life, to be paid out of his messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments, hereinafter given in Trust for his sons Bartholomew Horsell and Joseph Horsell.

Gives and bequeaths to his said son Bartholomew Horsell his freehold parcel of formerly arable land now converted into pasture ground which he purchased from Mr Morris White and others, and after the decease of his said son he gives and devises the same to his grandson Bartholomew Horsell and his heirs forever.

Gives and bequeaths to his said son Bartholomew Horsell his four freehold messuages, tenements, gardens and premises in Beamans Lane in Wootton Bassett, as well as his leasehold close of meadow or pasture called Hopkins Field in Woodshaw Wootton Bassett and also his copyhold closes of ground adjoining to the former.

After the death of his wife he gives and bequeaths to his friends Francis Smith* of Totenham in co. Wilts and William Smith* of Greenhill in Wootton Bassett the aforesaid messuage or dwelling house in Wootton Bassett where he now lives, as well as the messuage or tenement called the Shoulder of Mutton adjoining his dwelling house, in Trust to let the same estates to anyone they think proper, and to receive the rents and issues from them for the benefit of his son Joseph Horsell for the term of his natural life, and thereafter to his grandson William Horsell, son of his son Bartholomew Horsell.

Gives and devises to his grandson Francis Smith, son of his daughter Martha Smith, and to William Smith, his Trustees, his two leasehold closes of meadow or pasture ground in Greenhill aforesaid, one called North Close and the other Trickles, to let them and receive from them the rents, issues and profits and pay the same to his said son Joseph Horsell for the term of his natural life, and thereafter to his said son Bartholomew Horsell.

Gives and bequeaths £100 to his daughter Mary Smith wife of the said William Smith his Trustee.

Gives and bequeaths 3 guineas to his friend Thomas Mayris of Wootton Bassett, carpenter, to buy him a suit of mourning.

Gives and bequeaths to his said son Bartholomew Horsell his silver pint cup and to his said son Joseph Horsell his silver half-pint cup, on the condition they do not sell them.

Gives and bequeaths to his grandson Bartholomew Horsell all his silver buckles and buttons.

Nominates and appoints his said son Bartholomew Horsell and the said Francis Smith and William Smith co-executors of his last will and testament.
