Abstract of the Will of Martha Maskelyne of Wootton Bassett in the County of Wilts, Widow, written 24 Jan 1800, proved 16 Dec 1808. 3

Gives, devises & bequeaths to her grandson John Mundee and his heirs all her freehold messuage or tenement, garden ground & premises in Wootton Bassett.

Gives & bequeaths £5 each to her grandchildren Ann Mundee, Martha Mundee, Mary Mundee, Sarah Mundee, Susannah Mundee and Ann Maskelyne, all under the age of 21 years.

Gives £5 each to her sons Thomas Maskelyne and John Holly of Leigh in co. Wilts in order to buy mourning.

Gives & bequeaths to her grandson William Mundee her mahogany desk.

Gives & bequeaths to her granddaughter Martha Mundee her tea table, tea board, her best set of china, six silver spoons, and silver tea tongs.

Whereas her late husband John Maskelyne of Harris Crofts in Wootton Bassett, deceased more than twenty years, by his last will and testament bequested £100 to his son Giles Maskelyne, directing that he should be placed out as an apprentice to some trade, the expenses thereof to be deducted from the said bequest, and whereas Giles has refused to be so placed and his upkeep, since his father's death, has been chargeable to her, Giles having earned nothing towards his own maintenance or clothing for the eleven years since he turned 21, the cost of which has amounted to more than the legacy left to him by his late father, she has as a consequence made an affidavit before a Commissioner dated 19 May 1787 to prevent as far as possible Giles laying claim to the said legacy. Instead she gives & bestows on Giles 2 shillings weekly during the term of his life, including the sum of £20 willed to Giles by his late brother John Maskelyne. She also gives & bequeaths to her said son, Giles Maskelyne, the use of her bed, bedstead and bedding and, after his death, the same to be bequeathed to her said granddaughter Susannah Mundee.

All the rest and residue of her personal estate and effects she gives and bequeaths to her daughter Ann Mundee of Cotmarsh in the parish of Broad Hinton, widow, making her the sole executrix of her last will and testament.
