At the time of the 1881 England Census Henry J Carey, age 19, born in Ringmer Sussex, farmer's son, was with his mother and family in Broyles Lane, Ringmer Sussex.

At the time of the 1891 England Census Henry J Carey, age 29, born in Ringmer Sussex, farmer, and wife Emily M, age 28, born in Fletching Sussex, were living in Flower Green, Hurstmonceux Sussex. With them were daughters (born in Hurstmonceux): Ellen Mary (5), Hetty (2), and Jessie (8 months).

At the time of the 1901 England Census Henry J Carey, age 38, born in Ringmer Sussex, farmer, and wife Emily M, age 38, born in Fletching Sussex, were living in Ald Farm, Little Horsted Sussex. Present were children: Ellen M (15) of Herstmonceux, Jessie (10) of Herstmonceux, Emily (7) of Warbleton, and Charles H (3) of Warbleton.

In Aug 1909 H J Carey was present at the marriage of his daughter Ellen Mary Carey to Arthur Lawrence Carroll in Little Horsted Sussex.

At the time of the 1911 England Census Henry J Carey, age 49, born in Ringmer Sussex, farmer, and wife of 26 years Emily Maria, age 48, born in Fletching Sussex (mother of 5 children 1 deceased) were living in Old Farm Little Horsted Sussex. With them were children: Jessie Carey (20) of Hurstmonceux, farmer's daughter, and Charles Henry Carey (13) of Bodle Street Warbleton, school.

In Jun 1913 H J Carey was present at the marriage of his daughter Emily Carey to David Funnell in Little Horsted Sussex.

In Apr 1922 Henry Joseph Carey, gentleman, was granted Probate of his late father's personal effects.

In Oct 1933 Henry Joseph Carey, gentleman, was granted Administration of the personal effects of his late sister Kate Elizabeth Carey of Moor House Farm, Ringmer, spinster.

In Feb 1944 Henry Joseph Carey of no occupation was granted Probate of the personal effects of his late brother-in-law George Henry Starnes of Brighton.
