At the time of the 1851 England Census Sarah Carey, age 46, born in Ringmer Sussex, and husband Joseph Carey, age 42, born in Alciston Sussex, farmer of 32 acres employing 1 labourer, were living in Norlington Broyle, Ringmer Sussex. With them were children (born in Ringmer): George (16), farm labourer, and Harriett (13).
At the time of the 1861 England Census Sarah Carey, age 56, born in Ringmer Sussex, and husband Joseph A Carey, age 52, born in Alciston Sussex, farmer of 40 acres employing 3 men and 1 boy, were living in Cottage, Broyle Mill, Ringmer Sussex. Son George and his family were living nextdoor.
