At the time of the 1851 England Census Saml. Mepham, age 17, born in Middlesex, messenger, was with his parents in Orchard Road, Bromley St. Leonard, Middlesex.

At the time of the 1871 England Census Samuel Mepham, age 37, born in Bromley Midx, commercial clerk coals, and wife Lucy, age 36, born in Limehouse Midx, were living at 1 Hudsons Rd., West Ham Essex. With them were children Lucy (10) of Limehouse, scholar, and born in West Ham: Alice (8), scholar, Samuel (6), scholar, Thomas (4), scholar, and Jonathan (1).

In Sep 1871 Samuel Mepham of Barnard House, Canning Town Essex, commercial clerk, was co-executor of the Will of his father-in-law Jonathan Barnard of Limehouse.

At the time of the 1881 England Census Samuel Mepham, age 47, born in Bromley Midx, commercial clerk, and wife Lucy, age 46, born in Limehouse Midx, were living in Barnard House, West Ham Essex. Present were children Lucy (20) of Limehouse, and born in West Ham: Alice (18), pupil teacher, Thos. (14), plumber's apprentice, Jonathan (11), scholar, Edgar (9), scholar, and Luther (7), scholar.

At the time of the 1891 England Census Samuel Mepham, age 57, born in Bromley Midd, commercial clerk, and wife Lucy, age 56, born in Limehouse Midd, were living at 1 Hudson's Rd., West Ham Essex. With them were children Samuel J (26) of Canning Town Essex, turn & fitter, Lucy (30) of Limehouse, Thomas W (24) of Canning Town, auctioneer's clerk, Jonathan B (21) of Canning Town, insurance clerk, Edgar A (19) of Canning Town, pattern maker, and Luther E (17) of Canning Town, board school teacher.

At the time of the 1901 England Census Samuel Mepham, age 67, born in Poplar London, retired comm[ercial] (coal) clerk, and wife Lucy, age 66, born in Limehouse London, were living at 76 Stopford Rd., West Ham Essex. With them were children: Lucy M (40) of Limehouse, single, at home, Samuel J (36) of West Ham, engine fitter & turner, and Luther E (27) of West Ham, assistant schoolmaster.

At the time of the 1911 England Census Samuel Mepham, age 77, born in Quay Lane (now Brunswick Rd) Bromley (Poplar Union) Middlesex, and wife of 54 years Lucy, age 76, born in Limehouse Middlesex (mother of 9 children, 4 deceased), were living at 11 Cowper Avenue, East Ham Essex. With them was daughter Lucy Margaret Mepham (50) of Limehouse, single.

The funeral took place yesterday of Mr. Samuel Mepham, a well-known temperance reformer, of West Ham, who died aged 90 following an operation. He helped to get Keir Hardie returned for Canning Town, but was a Liberal, and one of the supporters of Mr. Andrew Johnston when he was the Liberal Member for South Essex. He had also been an active Congregational Church worker.
