It is with regret that we record the death at her residence, 51, Cranbourne-gardens, Golders Green, on New Year's Day, of Mrs. Gertrude Emily Riley, wife of Mr. William Riley, a former Prudential Assurance Company official.
Mrs. Riley, who was 62, had been ill for over four years. She came from Coventry with her husband, who had then retired, about five years ago. For some time she was secretary of the Kidderminster Branch of the British Women's Total Abstinence Union. When he left Coventry Mr. Riley was senior superintendent for the Prudential Assurance Company, having previously represented the company in East Anglia, Scotland and the Midlands.
Beside the husband, there are left a son and two daughters, one of whom—Miss Edna Doreen Riley—is a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music.
The funeral took place at the Golders Green Crematorium on Tuesday, following a service in St. Barnabas Church, the officiating minister being the Rev. E. G. Turner. The chief mourners were the husband, Mr. William Preston Riley (son), Miss Gertrude Frances Riley and Miss E. D. Riley (daughters), Miss Katie Wallace (niece), Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Riley, Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Charter and Dorothea (Letchworth) and Mr. and Mrs. L. Dyke (Hendon).....
