MARRIED 61 YEARS.
DEATH OF MRS. EDMONDS AT HELLINGLY.
A marriage link extending over a period of nearly 62 years, has been broken by the passing on Sunday morning of Mrs. Susannah Edmonds, the wife of Mr. William Edmonds, at "Holly Lodge," Hellingly, where Mr. and Mrs. Edmonds had lived with their daughter, Mrs. Cooper, for the past five years. Mrs. Edmonds, who would have attained her 80th birthday next Tuesday, had been in failing health for some time, but she was only confined to her bed for about four days. Seven sons and three daughters are also bereaved.
Mrs. Edmonds, who was formerly Miss Mockett, was born at Bopeep Farm, Alciston, and had spent practically all her life in East Sussex. With her husband, she resided at Globe Farm, Hellingly, for about twenty years, and subsequently at Gate Farm, Battle, and Theobalds Farm, Heathfield. They returned to Hellingly from Mayfield. Mr. and Mrs. Edmonds were married at Selmeston Parish Church on 7th July, 1868, and on the occasion of their diamond wedding in 1928, they were recipients of a letter of congratulation and good wishes from their Majesties the King and Queen.
The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, the vicar of Hellingly (the Rev. G. Busck) conducting the service. The first part was held at the parish church, and the interment was at the Cemetery.
The mourners were Mr. George Edmonds, Mr. Hubert Edmonds, Mr. Martin Edmonds, Mr. Wilfred Edmonds, Mr. Victor Edmonds, Mr. Harry Edmonds and Mr. Reginald Edmonds (sons), Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Brown (daughters), Mrs. Hubert Edmonds (daughter-in-law), Mr. Eric Brown (grandson) and Mrs. Budgen.
