HELLINGLY RESIDENT.
THE LATE MR. WILLIAM EDMONDS.
Mr. William Edmonds, who had farmed in East Sussex practically all his life, passed away on Good Friday at "Holly Lodge," Hellingly, the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Cooper. Mr. Edmonds, who was 87 years of age, had been confined to his bed for three months. Up to a year ago he had been particularly active, but the death of his wife in March last year, after a married life of nearly 62 years, was a great shock to him. Seven sons and three daughters are bereaved.
Born at Lewes, Mr. Edmonds was at Globe Farm, Hellingly, for about twenty years, and subsequently at Gate Farm, Battle. He retired from Theobalds Farm, Heathfield, about thirteen years ago, and went to Mayfield. He returned to Hellingly to live with his daughter six years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Edmonds were married at Selmeston Parish Church on July 7th, 1868, and they received a letter of congratulation and good wishes from their Majesties the King and the Queen on the occasion of their diamond wedding, which they celebrated in 1928.
The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon. The service was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. G. Busck), the first part being held at Hellingly Parish Church, and the interment was at the Cemetery. Mr. T. Stroud, A.C.P., was at the organ.
The mourners and friends who attended included Mr. and Mrs. George Edmonds, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Edmonds, and Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Edmonds (sons and daughters-in-law), Mr. Martin Edmonds, Mr. Victor Edmonds, Mr. Harry Edmonds and Mr. Reginald Edmonds (sons), Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. Brown and Miss Edmonds (daughters), Mr. George Edmonds (cousin), Miss M.
