At the time of the 1841 England Census Joseph Mockiett, age 38, born in the county, innkeeper, and wife Anna, age 42, not born in the county, were living in Firle Street, West Firle Sussex. With them were children (all born in the county): Henry (17), shoem[aker's] ap[prentice], Emily (11), Margarett (7), William (6), Hariet (5).
At the time of the 1851 England Census Joseph Mockett, age 48, born in Westfirle Sussex, innkeeper, and wife Anna, age 51, born in Lancaster, were living in Ram Inn, West Firle. With them was daughter Margaret M (18) of Westfirle.
In 1853 Joseph Mockett of Firle, innkeeper, was co-executor and a residuary legatee of his father's Will in which he was bequeathed £120.
At the time of the 1861 England Census Joseph Mockett, age 57, born in West Firle, widower, inn keeper, was living in Ram Inn, West Firle. With him was daughter-in-law Susan Mockett (32) of Lindfield, mariner's wife.

The Will of Joseph Mockett late of Westfirle in the County of Sussex, innkeeper, deceased, who died 29 March 1865 at Westfirle aforesaid, was proved 19 May at Lewes by the oaths of Henry William Mockett of Westfirle aforesaid, farmer, the son, and Matthias Mockett of Willingdon in the County aforesaid, miller, the nephew, the executors.
