At the time of the 1861 England Census Rosa H Elphick, age 24, born in Firle, and husband Joseph Elphick age 25 probably 30, corn, coal & seed merchant, were living in North Street, Lewes St. Thomas in the Cliffe. With them was son George J (one month) of Lewes.
At the time of the 1871 England Census Rosa H Elphick, age 34, born in Westfirle, and husband Joseph Elphick, age 36, born in Lewes, corn, coal, seed & lime merchant employing 7 men, were living in Bo peep, Alciston Sussex. Present were children (born in Lewes): George J (10), scholar, and Rose M (8), scholar.
At the time of the 1881 England Census Rosa H Elphick, age 44, farmer's wife, and husband Joseph Elphick, age 46, born in Lewes, farmer and lime merchant employing 21 men and 8 boys, were living in Selmeston Sussex. With them were children (born in Lewes): George J (20), farmer's son, Rosa M (18), farmer's daughter, Charles D (8) of Alciston.
