The Late Mrs. Bickford, Camborne.
Mrs. Julia Bickford, of Basset-road, Camborne, passed away on Friday at an advanced age. Mrs. Bickford took a keen interest in local affairs, and subscribed liberally to all the charities of the district. For many years she had acted as treasurer of the Camborne Provident Blanket Society, and was a great friend to the old B Co-Volunteers, 1st Batt., D.C.L.I. It was mainly through the efforts of the late Major Bickford and Dr. Smith that the Camborne Volunteer Company was raised in 1859. In 1864 Major Bickford provided, at his own expense, the magnificent head-quarters and drill ground at Camborne. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Bickford had continued to grant the use of these premises free of charge. She leaves one son, Mr. J. S. Vivian Bickford.
The interment took place at Roskear on Monday morning, amid every token of respect. The Revs. H. Wright and G. B. Hooper officiated, and the Revs. A. A. Adams, vicar of Crowan, and J. S. Carah, vicar of Penponds, were also present. The mourners included Mr. and Mrs. J. S. V. Bickford (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. H. P. Vivian (brother), Miss E. Vivian (niece), Mr. J. Jewell Hill (Penzance), Sir George and Lady Smith, Miss Laura Smith, Miss Butlin, Messrs. J. C. and W. N. Bickford-Smith, and J. R. Daniell....
