SUDDEN DEATH OF MAJOR BICKFORD, of CAMBORNE.

Mr. John Solomon Bickford died suddenly at his residence, Penla-terrace, Tuckingmill, Camborne, on Thursday evening. He was the senior member of the firm who have carried on the famed safety fuse manufactory of Bickford, Smith, and Co. He had lately been ailing, but was apparently not worse, and had taken an afternoon carriage drive to Redruth. While returning he stopped to pick up his glove, and immediately fell forward and died instantaneously. He was a great supporter of the volunteer movement, captain of the Camborne corps, and afterwards major of the Western Battalion. He built Camborne armoury, and enclosed a drill ground, at the cost of about £2,000. He was very liberal to the poor, and a heavy subscriber to every good work. With the mining interest he was largely identified.
