The funerals of the late Mr. and Mrs. Yewens took place at the parish church on Saturday. The sight was an unusual one. The deceased lady and gentleman died within a few hours* of each other,—Mrs. Yewens, after a long and painful illness, and Mr. Yewens, although ailing for a considerable time, passed quickly away, after he was confined to his room. There was a very large concourse of people at the funerals, and the shops were wholly or partially closed in various parts of the town, as well as on the line of route to the churchyard. The service was effectively read in the church by the Rev. W. W. Butlin, incumbent of Penponds ; and at the grave-side by the Rev. W. P. Chappell, the rector.
