Named as a beneficiary in his father's Will (written 1840), in which he is bequeathed the house he now lives in conditional to him paying his mother Phillis an annuity of £3.

In 1851 Thomas King (37) of Phillack, widower, wheelwright, was living in Ventonleague, Phillack. With him were children (born in Phillack): Philippa (12), scholar, Catherine (10), scholar, Thomas (6), scholar. Daughter Eliza was with her paternal grandmother at this time, and Thomas's brother John and his family were living nextdoor.
