In 1841 Richard Howell, aged 26, was with his parents in Pencoeytry St. Andrews Glamorgan.

In 1861 Richard Howell, aged 45, born in St. Andrews Glamorgan, ag lab, and wife Rebecca, aged 41, born in Merthyr Dovan Glamorgan, were living in Nap House, Cadoxton-juxta-Barry Glamorgan. With them were children (born in Merthyr Dovan) Richard (11), scholar, John (9), scholar, and Anne (5).

In 1871 Richard Howell, aged 55, born in Cadoxton [sic], farmer of 21 acres, and wife Rebekah, aged 51, born in Cadoxton [sic], were living in Nap House Cadoxton Glamorgan. With them was daughter Anne Howell (15).

In 1881 Richard Howell, aged 65, born in St. Andrews Glamorgan, farmer of 18 acres, and wife Rebecca, aged 62, born in Merthyr Dovan Glamorgan, were living in Nap House Cadoxton Glamorgan. Present were children (born in St. Andrews, both unmarried) John (28), agricultural labourer, and Ann (25).

In 1891 Richard Howells, aged 75, born in Pencoytre Glamorgan, widower, retired farmer, was living in Knap Cottage, Cadoxton-juxta-Barry Glamorgan. With him was son John (39) of Merthyr Dovan, labourer.

In 1901 Richard Howells, aged 85, born in St. Andrews Glamorgan, widower, retired farmer, was living in Knap House, Cadoxton-juxta-Barry Glamorgan. With him were granddaughters (born in Bonvilstone Glamorgan) Elizabeth Burton (23), single, and Rebecca Burton (21), single.

Richard married Rebecca Thomas, daughter of William Thomas and Anne Jones, on 8 Mar 1842 in Wenvoe, Glamorgan, Wales. (Rebecca Thomas was christened 29 Nov 1819 in Merthyr Dyfan, Glamorgan, Wales and was buried 15 Aug 1884 in Cadoxton-juxta-Barry, Glamorgan, Wales, aged 63 years.)
