At the time of the 1881 England Census Joseph Newick, age 20, born in Willington, Sussex, agricultural labourer, and wife Dorothea, age 19, born in Burwash Sussex, were living in St. Hill Green Cottage, East Grinstead, Sussex

At the time of the 1891 England Census Joseph Newick age 30, born in Willington, Sussex, head cowman, and wife Dorothea, age 20, born in Burwash, were living in Will Place Cottage, Penshurst, Tonbridge, Kent. Present were children: Hannah (9) of East Grinstead, scholar, Joseph (7) of East Grinstead, scholar, Frank (6) of Penshurst Kent, scholar, Kate (4) of Penshurst, Dorothy (3) of Tonbridge.

At the time of the 1901 England Census, Joseph Newick, age 40, born in Willington, Beds. [sic], shepherd on farm, and wife Dorothea, age 39, born in Burwash, were living in Barden Farm, Bidborough, Kent. Present were children: Joseph (17) of East Grinstead, horseman on farm, Frank (16) of Penshurst, shepherd boy on farm, Dorothy (13) of Hadlow Kent, Lilian (9) of Penshurst, Hilda (3) of Bidborough

In 1911 Joseph Newick, age 51, born in Willinton, cowman on farm, and wife of 31 years Dorothy, age 50, born in Burwash,were living at Swaylands Penshurst Kent. With him were children: Joseph (27), carter on farm, Lilian (19), Hilda (13), at school, grandson Harry Ernest (6) of Penshurst.

Sometime leading up to the 1920s, the family moved to Staffordshire.
