At the time of the 1911 England Census Dorothy Hey, age 22, born in Penshurst Kent, mother of 3 children (1 deceased), and husband of 3 years Henry Johnson Hey, age 23, born in Sherburn in Elmet Yorkshire, general labourer, were living in Church Hill, Sherburn in Elmet, Yorkshire. With them were daughters (born in Sherburn in Elmet): Hilda (2), Gladys Clayforth (1).

In the 1939 Register Dorothy Hey (b. 12 Oct 1887), widowed, unpaid domestic duties, was living at 1 East View, Sherburn In Elmet. At the same address were [sons] Benjamin (b. 13 Sep 1914), railway driver & rope . . . . . . . , and Clayforth H (b. 24 Mar 1916), medical attendant, and [granddaughter] Pauline Mary Hey (b. 1 Oct 1930), at school.
