Between 1819 and 1826 Thomas Newick (or Newack) made several request to the Select Vestry Committee for relief. In the earlier years the requests were mainly for items of clothing but towards the later years he was requesting flour at almost every meeting. 4

At the time of the 1841 England Census Thomas Newick, aged about 50, ag. lab., and wife Sarah, aged about 45, were living in Barden, Etchingham Sussex. With them were children Mary (20), Jane (15), William (15), Ann (13) and Henry (11).
