At the time of the 1871 England Census Thomas Newick, age 22, born in Wadhurst Sussex, agricultural labourer, and wife Maria, age 22, born in Etchingham Sussex, were living in Little Barden, Etchingham, Sussex. With them were son William T. (1) of Etchingham, and sister Mary A. (18) of Wadhurst, domestic servant unemployed.
At the time of the 1881 England Census Thomas Newick, age 32, born in Wadhurst Sussex, agricultural labourer, and wife Maria, age 32, born in Etchingham Sussex, were living in Merriments Cottage, Saleshurst, Sussex. Present were children George (9) of Etchingham, scholar, Mary A. (5) of Etchingham, scholar, Edmund (6) of Hawkhurst, Elizabeth F. (3) of Hawkhurst, Edith M. (1) of Saleshurst. Thomas's father William and his wife Caroline were living nearby.

DEATH OF MR. T. NEWICK.—We regret to record the death of an old resident, Mr. Thomas Newick, of Wilesley Pound, which occurred on Saturday at the age of 84 years. Mr. Newick, who had resided in Cranbrook for the past 16 years, lived at Hurst Green for many years and the greater part of his life at Etchingham. He was born at Stonegate. He celebrated his diamond wedding in January, 1929. The funeral took place at Sissinghurst cemetery on Wednesday. The mourners were Miss Newick (daughter), Messrs. G. and F. B. Newick (sons), Mrs. Wenman, Mrs. Keel, Mrs. Snepp (daughters), Mr. Wenman, Mr. Keel, Mr. Snepp (sons-in-law), Mrs. F. B. Newick (daughter-in-law), Mr. W. Newick, Mr. A. Newick, and Mr. J. Newick (brothers), Mrs. J. Newick (sister-in-law), Mr. F. Newick and Mrs. Matthews (grandchildren), Miss E. Newick and Mrs. Barnes (nieces), Mr. F. Bovis (nephew), Mr. Boghurst, Miss Potten, Mr. C. Forward and Mr. G. Forward. The widow was unable to attend....
