In 1830 John Gallop was a beneficiary of the Will of his paternal grandfather John Gallop of Hastings All Saints, fisherman.
At the time of the 1841 England Census John Gallop, aged about 55, shipwright, and wife Mary Gallop, aged about 50, were living in York Cottages, St. Mary in the Castle, Hastings, Sussex. With them were Caroline Gallop (25), Jno. Gallop junr. (25), carpenter, Geo: Gallop (20), shipwright, Chas. Gallop (15), shipwright, Sarah Gallop (4).
At the time of the 1851 England Census John Gallop, aged 66, born in Hastings, shipwright, and wife Mary Gallop, aged 65, born in Hastings, were living at 4 York Cottages, St. Mary in the Castle Hastings. Daughter Caroline and her husband Henry Belsey were at the same address.

Bequeaths to his wife Mary Gallop his household goods, furniture, plate, linen, china, glass, books, pictures, liquors, and fuel.
Gives and devises in Trust his tenement called Shipwright's Arms in Winding Lane in Hastings St. Clement, his two tenements in the parish of Ore, and the rest of his real esate, to Jeremiah Plane of St. Clement, bricklayer, Charles Stanley of St. Mary in the Castle Hastings, tailor, and to his son John Gallop, to sell for as much money as possible and invest it in public stocks, funds or securities. Directs his trustees to pay the dividends and interest from such investments to his wife Mary Gallop for the term of her natural life.
After the death of his wife he wills that the moneys, stocks, funds, securities, and the annual income from them be divided into five equal parts, one fifth to be paid to his daughter Jane the wife of James Belsey for her own personal use; if his said daughter should die before her share be paid to her then the same shall be paid to her two children Jane Caroline Belsey and Thomas James Belsey; another fifth part of the Trust monies to be paid to his daughter Caroline the wife of Henry Belsey; another fifth part to be paid to his son John Gallop unless he dies before receiving his share, in which case he bequeaths the same to John's daughter Sarah Gallop; another fifth part to be paid to his son George Gallop, and the remaining fifth to be paid to his son Charles Gallop.
Appoints his said trustees Jeremiah Plane, Charles Stanley and his son John Gallop co-executors of his will.
