Abstract of the Will of Robert Vaughan Humphreys of Caerynwch in the County of Merioneth, Esquire, written 22 Dec 1762, proved 8 Oct 1776. 3
Refers to an Indenture in four parts dated 1 Aug 1753 between his late father John Humphreys Esquire deceased and himself the said Robert Vaughan Humphreys of the first part, Lewis Meyrick and William Anwyl Gentlemen of the second part, Lewis Owen and Francis Lloyd Gentlemen of the third part, and Jane Humphreys his now wife of the fourth part, purporting to be a marriage settlement with his said wife by which a power is reserved to him to charge all his messuages, lands and hereditaments in the counties of Merioneth & Montgomery with the sum of £200 for such uses, intents & purposes as he shall think to propose.
In the first place he leaves & bequeaths all his farm stock to his wife Jane Humphreys in Trust to sell after his death in order to pay his debts. If his debts are not covered fully by the sale of said farm stock and household goods, then whatever portion is necessary of the aforesaid £200 shall be used, and the remainder to his daughter Catherine Humphreys.
He leaves all of his silver plate to his wife during the term of her natural life, and after her decease to his said daughter Catherine....
He desires that his wife take care of his daughter's education, and if his said wife should die during his daughter's minority, then he requests that his cousins the Revd. Anthony Poole and the Revd. John Humphreys, Mr. Howel Lewis of Heylygog and Mr. David Lewis of Bronwion will manage the last-mentioned Trust.
He leaves his silver watch, his gold signet and his silver seal to his wife, and after she dies to his daughter Catherine.
He also leaves to his wife his large folio English bible, his large folio English common prayer book, his large folio Welsh bible, his large folio Welsh common prayer book, and his folio Whole Duty of Man, for the term of her natural life, and after her death to the heirs of his house and family forever.
Nominates, constitutes & appoints his wife Jane Humphreys sole executrix of his last will and testament.
