In Jan 1860 Catherine Newman was a witness at the marriage of her sister Ellen Newman Adams to Vincent Vine in Hove, Sussex.

At the time of the 1861 England Census Catherine Newman, age 18, born in Brighton, scholar, was with her mother Barbara Tuppen, age 46, born in Alfriston, and her second husband Richard Tuppen, age 70, born in Brighton, butcher, at 9 Market St., Brighton.

At the time of the 1871 England Census Catherine Holmes, age 28, born in Brighton Sussex, and husband Albert Holmes, age 26, born in Marylebone Middlesex, clerk, were living in Cambridge Gardens, Kensington Town, London. With them were sister Helen Vine (34) of Brighton Sussex, widow, and nephew William Vine (6) of Lewes Sussex.
