In Apr 1586 Robert Paynter was appointed one of the overseers of the Will of his friend and neighbour Robert Collingham of Hailsham, yeoman.
On 27 Aug 1594 Robert Paynter was a witness to a deed of feoffment from Henry Sampton of Stapleherst Kent, tailor, to John Thunder of Staplehurst Kent, clothier, of a parcel of marshland called Kippyngs containing 9 acres in Hailsham, Sussex. 8
On 7 Mar 1597 Robert Paynter was a witness to a conveyance (grant) by William Ryve of Neville, Sussex, yeoman to Stephen French of Chiddingly, yeoman, of a messuage or tenement with garden and four acres of land in Hailsham, Sussex. 9
In Mar 1609/10 Robert Painter was appointed one of the overseers of the Will of his friend John Hollybone 'the elder' of Hailsham.

In the name of god amen the Third Daye of January Anno Dni 1611 and in the yeares of the raigne of our most gracious Soveraigne Lorde James by the grace of god king of england France & Ireland Defender of the faith & the Nineth and of Scotland the five & forteth I Robert Painter of Hailsham in the Countie of Sussex & Diocesse of Chichester being sicke and weake in boddye but of good and perfecte memorye (Thanks be unto god therefore) Doe make and ordayne this my last will & Testament in manner & following, First and principally I Comend my Soule into the handes of allmightie god my moste mercifull Saviour and Redeemer Trusting onely through his Death and passion to have full pardon & Remission of all my sinnes, And my boddie I will to the earthe To be Christianlicke burial in the Church Yarde of Hailsham aforesaid Imprimis I give & bequeath unto the poore people of the said parishe of Hailsham aforesaid six shillings and eight pence. And Towardes Reparacons of the saide Churche Three shillings and fowre pence: Item I will and my verry minde ys that my executor hereafter named shall paie unto Joane my wife yearelie and everye yeare During her naturall lyfe the some of Fowre pounds of good and lawfull monye of England to be paied to her . . . . . . . That ys to saie twentie shillings quarterly. Also I give and bequeath unto Joane my wife One plaine bedstedle a feather bed & bowlster which was hers before I marryed with her also two pillowes ii blanketts & one coverlette nowe belonging to the said bed and bedstedle Allso I give & bequeath unto Joane my said wife Three paire of Sheets one litle brasse pott my bigest brasse ketle my lesser brasse ketle, One brasse posnatt Three Chestes a table Clathe iiii table napkins iii pewter platters a pewter Dishe and a pewter Sawser Item I give and bequeath unto William Painter my sonne Ten powndes of Currant mony of england To be paide unto him within Threeqters of ayeare next after my Decease by myne executor hereafter named: Item I give and bequeath unto Allexander Painter my sonne ten powndes of licke Currant mony of England to be paied unto him within Threeqters of ayeare next after my Decease as aforesaid And also I will and bequeath unto Allexander my sonne The lease which I holde of the demyse and grant of the Righte Honorable Lorde Richard [crossed out] late Earle of Dorsett & lorde high tresurer of england Togeather withall my Right title use Clayme possession and Demaunde which I holde by the said lease. Item I give & bequeath unto my Daughter Joane nowe the wife of Richard Carpenter of Pevensey gentleman Ten shillings to be paied unto her within one halfe yeare next after my Decease: Item I bequeath and my verry minde and will ys That Edward Painter my sonne shall have holde and enioye to him & his heires for ever The Howse Barne and lande thereunto belonging lying at whitedicke within the said parishe of Hailsham late [of] John Hollibone Deceased the which Mr Richard Kencheley and I weare Aucthorized to sell by the last will & Testament of the said John Hollibone hee the said Edward Painter paying and discharging all such legacyes & bequeaths as are given in the said will, and are yett unsattisffied And I ordayne & appointe for me & in my name my welbiloved frendes William Anstie, together with his Father in lawe Mr Richard Kencheley aforenamed to Deliver him State & possession of the howse & landes aforesaid according to the Draught & purport of a certaine Deede advised and Devised aheadye by councell learned in the lawe, Item I give and bequeath unto Agnes Painter & Joane Painter the Daughters of my said sonne William Painter to each of them a lambe Item I give and bequeath unto my said sonne Allexander my Bible All the Residewe of my goodes Chattels and leases whatsoever not before given nor bequeathed my debts & legacies being paid & discharged I will & bequeath unto Edward my said sonne whom I make and ordaine the whole & sole executor of this my last will & testament to execute & performe the same according to the true meaning and effecte thereof. And I appoint my loving neighborrs Richard Kencheley and Thomas Akehurst Juratts of the Towne & porte of Pevensey to be the Overseers of this my last will and testament and to Assiste and aide my saide executor in the execution of this my said last will and testament, And I give & bequeath unto each of them for there paines five shillings apeece....
