It is likely that John Paynter of Horsmonden was a grandson of Alexander Paynter (Painter) of Horsmonden, who wrote his will on 25 Feb 1494/5 (proved 21 May 1495). As such, John's father would have been either William Paynter or John Paynter, sons of Alexander Paynter of Horsmonden, both named in his Will. William was already married by 1494 and had a young son Alexander who was probably the same individual as Alexander Paynter of Horsmonden who appears in a writ of the early 1520s with John Paynter also of Horsmonden.
John Paynter of Horsmonden and his son Henry Paynter of Brenchley, taylor, entered into a bond with one John Roberthe of Goudhurst, husbandman, in 1518. John Paynter of Horsmonden who married Margery would have been a young man in the early 1520s, born, say, between 1495 and 1505. As such, he could not have been the same John Paynter of Horsmonden who, with his son Henry, entered into the abovementioned bond, given Henry would have been 'of age' by then. Henry's father, John, would have been the son of the elder Alexander, and died before 1558 (the earliest available year in the Horsmonden parish registers).
While subject to change should further information come to light, John Paynter who married Margery is shown in this tree as the brother of the above Henry and the son of John Paynter of Horsmonden who was living in 1518.
