In 1750 James Bristed received £100 from the Will of his late brother Richard Bristed of Warbleton, gent., along with lands and premises in the parish of East Hoathly for the term of his natural life.
Writing his Will in February 1753 Benjamin Bristed 'the Elder' of Warbleton bequeathed all his linen clothing to his brother James Bristed.

Gives and bequeaths to his son Benjamin Bristed and his heirs his house and garden in Rushlake Green in Warbleton, where the testator now dwells.
Gives and bequeaths to his son James Bristed and his heirs his house and garden in Rushlake Green, currently occupied by Stephen Wilmhurst the younger.
Gives to his sons Benjamin Bristed and James Bristed the remainder of his personal estate, to be equally divided between them.
Gives and bequeaths £10 to Rebekah James, along with her dwelling in his house rent-free and whatever household goods she needs, for the term of her natural life.
Gives and bequeaths £5 to Sarah Huggett* the daughter of John Huggett of Warbleton, blacksmith, to be paid to her when she turns twenty-one.
Makes his two sons Benjamin Bristed and James Bristed co-executors of his last will and testament.
