At the time of the 1871 England Census Alfred Stevens, age 13, born in Westfirle Sussex, was with his parents in Wick Street West Firle Sussex.

At the time of the 1881 England Census Alfred Stephens, age 24, born in Furle Sussex, unmarried, carman, was living at 33 Taylor St., Tonbridge Kent.

At the time of the 1891 England Census Alfred Stevens, age 36, born in Firle Sussex, carman, and wife Jane, age 31, born in Cuxton Kent, were living at 12 Francis Terrace, Victoria Rd., Tonbridge Kent. With them were children Edith (9) of Southborough Kent, scholar, and born in Tun Wells, Kent: Jane (7), scholar, Alfred (5), scholar, William (3).

At the time of the 1901 England Census Alfred Stevens, age 45, born in Alciston Sussex, carman general, and wife Jane, age 40, born in Cuxton Kent, charwoman, were living at 35 Shatton? Rd., Tonbridge Kent. Present were children: Edith (18) of Southboro' Kent, general servant domestic, and born in Tunbridge Wells Kent: Jane (17), general servant domestic, Alfred (14), milk deliverer, Willie (12), school, Eliza (9), school, George (5), school, Kate (4), school, and John (1).

At the time of the 1911 England Census Alfred Stevens, age 55, born in West Firle Sussex, corporation carter, and wife of 30 years Jane, age 50, born in Cobben Kent (mother of 11 children, 1 deceased), charwoman, were living at 45 South View Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. With them were children (born in Tunbridge Wells): Jane Stevens (with Bachelor written above), (26) married for 1 year, Eliza Stevens (19), single, George Stevens (15), Kate Stevens (14), John Stevens (11), Rose Stevens (9), Ivy Stevens (6), and grandchild Phillys Batchelor (12 days) of Tunbridge Wells.

The funeral took place recently of Mr. Alfred ("Bob") Stevens, of 45, South View-road, who died at the age of 87. The chief mourners were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Stevens, Mr. W. Stevens, Mr. and Mrs. George Stevens, Mrs. Batchelor, Kate and Kit, Mr. and Mrs. Funnell, Mr. E. Batchelor, Mr. Ted Batchelor, Miss Dorothy Jeffery, Miss Peggy Churcher, Miss Sybil Batchelor and Mr. Douglas Funnell. Mrs. Rose Jeffery was unable to attend owing to illness.
