THEFT OF CIGARETTES.
A MUCH-CONVICTED MAN.
A man who had spent forty of his fifty years in prisons appeared at the Dorking Police Court on Saturday charged with stealing seventeen packets of cigarettes, valued at 11s., from a shop in West-street, Dorking, on the previous Thursday. Accused was James Wilson, of no fixed abode....
Miss Rosa Hutson, who is in partnership with her sister as tobacconist and confectioner, at 58, West-street, Dorking, told the Court that on Thursday she missed from the shop 220 cigarettes, five in packets of 20, and 12 in 10's. The retail value of the cigarettes was 10s. 9½d., and the packets produced were similar to those stolen. She had not seen prisoner before....
