At the time of the 1851 England Census Henry Mockett, age 39, born in Selmeston, gardener, and wife Esther Mockett, age 32, born in Alciston, were living in Selmeston Village, Selmeston Sussex. Present were children (born in Selmeston): Edwin (11), scholar, Edgar (9), scholar, Adolphus (7), scholar, Abigail (5).
At the time of the 1861 England Census Henry Mockett, age 49, born in Selmeston, domestic gardener, and wife Hester Mockett, age 42, born in Alciston, were living in Thatcher House, Selmeston. Daughter Abigail Mockett (15) was working nextdoor as a domestic nurse. Sons Edwin Mockett (21), journeyman blacksmith, and Adolphus Mockett (18), blacksmith's ap[prentice], were with their maternal aunt and uncle Mercy & William Denman in ironmonger's shop, Willingdon Sussex.
