DEATH OF MISS BEATRICE VIVIAN
A LINK WITH CAMBORNE AND CARBIS BAY.
The passing of Miss Beatrice Vivian, of The Cot, Carbis Bay, at the age of 76, severs a link between Camborne and her adopted home.
Miss Vivian was a daughter of the late Captain W. Cock Vivian, retired mine manager, who was in his 100th year when he died. She survived her sister, Mrs. Lloyd (member of Redruth Board of Guardians) by many years.
Deceased in her youth took a prominent part in the intellectual and social life of Camborne. She organised the first of the University Extension Lectures and won honours in the examination. She was also keenly interested in church work.
Miss Vivian spent some years in South Africa, where some of her relatives still reside. She was a kinswoman of the late Mr. Joseph Vivian and of Mrs. Lamorna Birch and another lady relative wrote a book of travel in Cornwall and the West of England.
Deceased resided at her ancestral home at Reskadinnick until she removed to Carbis Bay.
At the time of her death deceased was a member of the Council of the St. Ives branch of the League of Nations Union, but did not always lean with the majority, particularly on the enforcement of Sanctions, her South African experiences having warned her of the folly of blundering into war in order to attain a conjectural peace.
Some months ago a nervous breakdown shattered her health so that her death was not unexpected by her friends. She will be remembered for her acute brain, her successful studies, her keen interest in Empire and world affairs and the part she played in social life when in her prime.
