Abstract of the Will of Robert Matthews Branwell of the Town of Penzance in the County of Cornwall, Grocer, written 24 Oct 1832, proved 12 Jun 1833. 2
Gives an annuity of £50 to his wife Jane Branwell during her widowhood, to be paid out of his freehold dwelling houses, warehouses and premises in North Parade in Penzance. And as a result of him being a member of the Penzance Annuitant Society for the benefit of widows, he gives to his wife an additional annuity of £20 during her widowhood.
Gives to his wife all his household goods and furniture, plate, linen and printed books, except the commentary on the Scriptures by Dr. Adam Clark, which he gives to his son Robert Branwell.
Gives to his son Richard his silver watch.
Gives £25 each to his son Richard and his daughters Mary Branwell, Jane Vivian Branwell, Eliza Branwell, Lavinia Branwell, Julia Branwell, and Ellen Vivian Branwell. Gives the further sum of £500 to his daughter Mary Branwell.
Gives £500 to his friends John Pope Vibert of Penzance, silversmith, and Charles Matthew Vibert of the same place, grocer, in trust, to invest in government or other good securities, and to pay the interest yearly to his daughter Honor the wife of John Barwis of Penzance, schoolmaster.
Gives £1,500 to his friends Thomas Penrose Hocking of Penzance, gentleman, and Richard Hocking of the same place, surgeon, in trust, to invest in government or other good securities, and to use the interest to support, maintain and educate his daughters Jane Vivian Branwell, Eliza Branwell and Lavinia Branwell, until they each turn twenty-one, at which time they are to receive £500 each along with the interest..
Gives to his friends John Cherris? Brown of Penzance, banker, Thomas Hacker Bodilly of the same place, grocer, and John Chester of the same place, ironmonger, his freehold dwelling, garden & premises in Chapel Street, Penzance, in trust, to receive the rents & profits thereof for the maintenance, support and education his son Richard Branwell until he turns twenty-one. He also gives £1,500 to his said friends, in trust, to invest in government or other good securities, and to use the interest to support, maintain and educate his son Richard Branwell and his daughters Julia Branwell and Ellen Vivian Branwell until the turn twenty-one, at which time they are to receive £500 each along with the interest.
All his messuages, lands, tenements, hereditaments and premises both freehold and leasehold, stock in trade, goods, chattels &c, he gives to his two sons Robert Branwell and John Freethy Branwell, share and share alike as tenants in common, appointing them co-executors and residuary legatees of his last will and testament.
