According to Kelly's Directory of Cornwall 1910, John was living and farming at Carne Farm, Morvah, where he continued to farm until his death in 1956, when he bequeathed the farm to his great nephew Christopher Lanyon Hichens.
In 1911 John James Hichens, aged 46, born in Crowan Cornwall, farmer, and wife of 4 years Vivian Hichens, aged 34, born in Madron Cornwall (no children), were living in Carne, Morvah, Cornwall.
In 1921 John James Hichens, aged 57, born in Crowan, farmer, and wife Nelly Vivian Hichens, aged 45, born in Madron, domestic duties, were living at Carne House, Morvah.
In the 1939 Register John J Hichens (b. 8 Jun 1864), farmer, and wife Nelly E V Hichens (b. 22 May 1875), household duties, were living in Carne, Morvah.
